Whiskey

Chico's Whiskey River Doc, "Whiskey," came to us in 2018 as part of the 42 horse Winona Herd rescue mission. (You can read all about the Winona Herd here: Winona Herd) Whiskey was one of six half brothers, all 12-year-old stallions with minimal handling. As stallions, they were housed separately in pens. None were well-socialized since they lived such solitary lives. Despite having been isolated, from the beginning, Whiskey was very sensitive, tender-natured and kind. It took him a while to trust us and to settle into his new life as a gelding who shared space with other horses. Once he adjusted, he began to thrive.

Now at 18 years of age, Whiskey lives in a large, grassy pasture with 5 other geldings. He's soooo happy! In 2019 we did start Whiskey under saddle, and he took to it fine. But, we later determined that he has PSSM1, and we decided to stop his saddle training and allow him to just live out a beautiful, peaceful life as a companion horse. Whiskey is very easy to care for. He stands for the farrier and veterinarian like a champ. He loves being groomed and doted on, and he really bonds with his care-takers. We absolutely adore this handsome fellow.
