Big Ben
On April 1, 2014, we received a call from a concerned neighbor regarding the condition of a pony she had been watching for a while. She sent photos to us showing his "slipper feet," and we decided to act immediately. Allyson made contact with the owners and requested that they relinquish the pony to The Pegasus Project. We explained the dire condition of his feet and educated them about the pain he was experiencing and how difficult the problem was going to be to solve. They agreed to sign him over to us, and we picked him up on April 3, 2014. The dentist aged him at 6 years old in 2014, and so he is 17 years old now. We began immediate hoof care and made him as comfortable as possible while starting his long rehabilitation process.
Big Ben has done very well over the past eleven years. Once we got him healthy, he recovered miraculously. He requires the care of our very experienced farrier, and he must live out his life on a pasture with very limited forage. He takes supplements due to his history of laminitis. If you are not willing to go the extra mile for this little guy, it's best that you adopt a different pony. In the mean time, Big Ben is hanging out at the Pegasus ranch with his best friend, Isaac. He couldn't be more happy!
When we first got Big Ben he was reactive and quick as lightening. After years of loving care, he is now easy to catch, groom, vet, fly spray, etc. He also stands nicely for the farrier. Big Ben is a sweetheart who adores attention and is basically a pocket pony!
